OCD Much?

Jealous? You just wish your medicine cabinet was organized this nicely. I found these bins at a thrift store and I knew just where they would work in my house. They were calling to me!

I also got to pull out my label maker. It's a good day when I get to use both containers AND a label maker.

It's Getting To Be A Zoo Around Here

And, oh, how I wish I meant that figuratively.

Back in May a cat followed The Mister home from his walk. I wasn't thrilled about having another pet, but this one had personality to spare and the other cat loved him. So I gave in and we now are a two cat family. The boys decided to call him Lucky because, well, having a black cat is supposed to be unlucky. I'm so glad they're finally getting irony.

Saturday before last The Mister was cleaning up the kitchen and was in the process of taking out the trash when he called me from the front hallway.

"Lainey, come here for a minute."

"What?"

"We have a visitor."

I look out the front door which has a glass panel and shade. This is what I see...

Now understand we don't live in the out in the country. I wouldn't say we're urban dwellers by any stretch of the imagination, but we are certainly a suburban family. So where the hell did the chicken come from?! And for that matter is it a chicken or a rooster?

The Mister made a little pen for the chicken out in the front courtyard and we figured that we'd hear something through the neighborhood e-mail message blast we sent out. Or we'd see a sign or his owners would knock on the door. After all losing a chicken would merit some notice, no? Apparently I'm wrong though since the bird is still hanging out with us.

And now the kids have named him. Antonio if it's a boy. Margaret if it's a girl. Though we haven't made a confirmation yet we've all taken to calling him Antonio. Or 'Tonio, if you prefer. He's seems pretty laid back about the whole name thing.

Antonio is incredibly docile and gets along with our two outdoor dogs. And when I say "gets along with" what I mean is they don't give a give a rat's patootie about the chicken in the back yard.
You might think that now that we have a chicken residing with us that we'd cut back on our meat consumption. You might think that, but you'd be wrong. We're extending all the courtesies we can given the circumstances, but he's pooping up my backyard so he'll have to look away as we eat our dinner.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to make roasted chicken tacos for dinner.
