Five Question Friday 11/12/2010

Welcome to another addition of Five Question Friday brought to you by the good folks over at My Little Life. Today's questions get me back into the swing of things having been out of blogging commission with all the to-do's that a school carnival brings a mom.

So without further ado, let's get started.

1. What is the most physically painful thing that has ever happened to you?
When I broke my collar bone in 4th grade. Ouch. I fell and flat on my right side. To this day I can't think of the incident without pain. Not even childbirth ranks (though having the surgery team not letting me go to the bathroom right before my emergency c-section ranks up there) in the *shudder* department in terms of pain.

2. How much sleep do you get at night?
Like all things, it depends. I am in bed by about 9:30 and then I fall asleep about 10:15. I'm up at 6:00, but stay in bed until 6:45. Except. My pets want me on their schedule and the cats/dogs/chicken do not have a cohesive sleeping arrangement. The dog barks, the cat wants the exact spot on the bed I'm sleeping on and the chicken...well, actually she's not a bother.
So I'd say, even though I'm in bed 9 hours, I actually only get about 7 hours of sleep on a good night. That's just sad.

3. How long did you believe in Santa Claus? How did you find out that he does not exist?
What?! What do mean there's no Santa Clause?!

Just kidding.

I guess I must have been in 3rd grade or about 9 years old. I recognized my mom's handwriting on the gifts from Santa. There was no actual conversation that took place to either confirm or deny his existence, but that was when my mom and I let each other off the hook.

4. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?
The Twilight Saga's Eclipse. My son and I had a date to go to the movies. It was awesome. I hope I get the movie on DVD for Christmas.

5. What do you wear to bed?
Usually jammie shorts and a t-shirt or tank top. I don't really care what it is or if it matches, but I have to have clean sleep clothes every night. It's one of the many things that makes me unique. Or OCD. Tomato, tomahtoh.
Wow! That was fun! I forgot how much I'd missed all this exploration into my psyche.  So whacha got? Go on over to Mama M. and let her poke in your brain.

Thrifty Ottoman Fix

I have boys. That means it's hard to have anything nice. They dirty, smudge, mess up and yes, rip anything they come into contact with. I have this lovely club chair and ottoman I like to sit and watch TV or crochet in, but usually it's a frellin' mess.  When I clean it up The Boys want to sit there and don't clean up when they're done.  Recently they put small tear in the leather than has turned into a full-on gash.

Nice, huh? I thought about making a slip cover for it. I have a little of the fabric left over from my bench redo. The only thing is, even with a sharp new cover, I still needed to control the gaping hole in my ottoman. Classy gal that I am, my mind immediately went to duct tape.

But wait! The last time I was at the local craft store I saw a whole bin of crazy colored duct tape. They had neon, metallic and even some prints. While the zebra print didn't do much for me I could definitely see some spotted leopard in my living room. Armed with my 40% off coupon I purchased my funky duct tape.

Then I slowly taped the monster rip, bringing all the seams together. After closing the hole I laid the strips of leopard duct tape from one side of the ottoman to the other, smoothing it out as went along. This is a bit of the finished product.

These images are a bit more grainy since they were taken on my phone, but I wanted to be able to show my mom right away. She was appropriately impressed. For the price of a roll of duct tape I was able to save my leather ottoman. Now that is thrifty!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't believe in a lot of things, but I do believe in duct tape.
